LEE SANTOS SILVA

The son of Cape Verdean immigrants, Lee Santos Silva (he/him) was raised in Brockton, MA, which is home to one of the largest Cape Verdean communities outside of Cape Verde. His writing explores issues and intersections of race, national identity, and sexuality in American, Portuguese, and Cape Verdean contexts. He is currently working on a collection of short stories and a memoir.

Lee has spent over twenty years teaching writing and literature at Bunker Hill Community College in Boston, where he mentors emerging writers through anti-racist and workshop-based pedagogies. His teaching and public scholarship center equity-minded literary practice and culturally sustaining storytelling traditions. In addition to composition courses, his teaching areas include African American Literature, African Literature, and LGBTQ Literature. He is also the former director of the college's Center for Equity and Cultural Wealth, where he supported faculty in integrating cultural wealth into the curriculum and developed the college's equity framework. When he is not writing, you can find Lee upside down at his local circus school, where he trains in hand balancing and contortion.
