Donnetrice Allison
Donnetrice C. Allison, Ph. D currently serves as Professor of both Communication Studies and Africana Studies at Stockton University in Galloway, NJ. Dr. Allison also serves as Chair of the Africana Studies Program. At Stockton since 2004, Dr. Allison has served in various leadership capacities, including president of the Council of Black Faculty and Staff (CBFS) and Faculty Senate President. In the community, Dr. Allison has engaged in outreach, including her recent work with several K-12 school districts to assist them in decolonizing their curricula to develop courses in African American history.
While it is clear from her vitae that Dr. Allison has served in various capacities at the collegiate level for three decades and published scholarly books, book chapters, and journal articles, what is not clear is that her true love and passion lies in telling stories of the Black diaspora. In 2023, her poem on the racial profiling of her son entitled, “A Simple Walk,” was published by Birch Bark Editing, and her television pilot, Teaching While Black, was awarded, nominated, and screened at several film and television festivals in 2023 and 2024. Her debut novel, loosely based on the journey to find her Nigerian roots, was recently selected for the 2025 Kimbilio National Fiction Prize.
In addition to a successful career, and passion for writing, Dr. Allison is a wife and mother of three young adults. Her goal is to ensure that they and other young people have more opportunities to see themselves fully reflected in all their dimensions in literature, film and television.
