Cameron Carter

Cameron Carter is a fiction writer and educator from Atlanta, Georgia. He holds an MA from Ball State University and an MFA from Georgia State University, and he is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of Missouri. His research focuses on the intersections of Black and Indigenous literature.

His fiction explores the U.S. South and the global South, with attention to masculinity, class, race, family, and historical haunting. He is currently working on two projects: Where God Can’t Find Us, a short-story cycle about a Black family across generations as they wrestle with love, migration, and the growing effects of climate change; and The Earth Beneath Our Feet, a multi-POV novel set at a university exploring activism and identity.

He is the recipient of the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright College Award and was a finalist for the Jesmyn Ward Prize for Fiction. He has received support from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Tin House, and Seventh Wave. His fiction has appeared or is forthcoming in StorySouth, Cutleaf, and elsewhere.
